For various reasons, I’m looking to increase the number of characters allowed in the Pages URI field under the pages tab. The limit is currently 100 and does not seem to be changeable.

What I am trying to determine is, if, somehow, we were able to find a way to increase this field size, would there be any concerns in terms of performance or possible considerations to make with regards to other modules’ interaction with the field?

The actual method by which one might achieve this would also be interesting, and certainly welcomed, but I am really just gauging feasibility at this point.

There are a few options:

The best is to try a plugin, since this would not affect the EE install itself:

I’d start with:

Another older, unsupported add-on is:
http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/ce-longer-titles

You can also alter your exp_channel_titles table to allow more than 100 characters manually, but this isn’t advisable, as it may conflict or be overwritten by future EE updates.

I haven’t had any problems with making this change.

Perfect, I am new to EE extension development, but with a little reading and some examination of the MX Title Control extension, I was able to put together a simple extension to increase the character limit on the pages URI field.
