    Hi there,

    My company is interested in moving from Joomla to ExpressionEngine;
Before that, we have some concerns:

    - We are a media company and we have a database of Games and comics, and to manage that, we use a component that manage news, reviews, Photos, Videos and the details all linked together for the same product in the same page.

    - We have a facebook like social section that fans connect and interact together.

    Can ExpressionEngine do all this?

    Regards

    Hi IMGMR,

Thank you for your interest in ExpressionEngine and welcome to the Forums!

    - We are a media company and we have a database of Games and comics, and to manage that, we use a component that manage news, reviews, Photos, Videos and the details all linked together for the same product in the same page.

One approach would be to have a channel for news and one for reviews. Using relationships you can ties those 2 channels together. For robust, multi-relationships, you can use something like Pixel & Tonic’s Playa.

ExpressionEngine channels can hold all kinds of data-types based on the field-types that are assigned to them. That data can be rich-text, links, images, videos, etc.

    - We have a facebook like social section that fans connect and interact together.

Check out Friends from Solspace. It let’s you build “Facebook like” features into an ExpressionEngine website!

While you’re looking, head over and check out the ExpressionEngine How-to and introductory videos we have on Vimeo. They’ll give a good sense for how the system fits together,

If you like, you can email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and request an Evaluation Copy of EE to kick the tires 😊

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Cheers,

Thank you Dan for the timely answer!

I think the main component that I’m looking for is the Pixel & Tonic’s Playa!!!

To finish, where can I find premium gaming theme templates, please?

    Hi iboumiza,

To finish, where can I find premium gaming theme templates, please?

ExpressionEngine doesn’t use themes in the traditional sense. EE uses templates as a the frame for your design. Once you have your design in EE, then you use ExpressionEngine tags to plug your content in where you want.

Do you have the HTML/CSS source files of your existing design?

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

here is the template that I own (Joomla based):
    http://www.gavick.com/joomla-templates/game-magazine,77.html

The only extra that I have is the Adobe PSD files, is it enough or do I have to start from scratch?

And yes I forgot, I need to create a bilingual website, is EE capable of that please?

    Best Regards
    Yassine

    Hi Yassine,

The only extra that I have is the Adobe PSD files, is it enough or do I have to start from scratch?

Right, you or a web developer would need to transfer the PSD based design into HTML/CSS and then migrate those into ExpressionEngine templates.

And yes I forgot, I need to create a bilingual website, is EE capable of that please?

Absolutely! There are several approaches to doing multi-lingual in ExpressionEngine.

There is our own Multiple Site Manager. Which lets you manage several sites from one ExpressionEngine Control Panel, but those sites can share members and resources as needed.

Transcribe is a 3rd party add-on that simplifies multi-lingual site management.

And there are ways to take advantage of ExpressionEngine flexibility with methods like Made by Hippo’s approach.

    Cheers,
