I am also experiencing the same issue: We recently installed MSM, users will attempt to login to the control panel (who don’t have access to Site 2), but the control panel will refresh without logging them in. Clearing the cache fixes this problem.
I’m using EE 2.5.1 and MSM 2.1.3
Help please!

Hi Jon,
Thanks for coming to us for help!
MSM relies on a few things being just so, or it gets persnickety.
Are you using one Control Panel for login, or does each site have its own?
Have you made sure to be consistent with sub-domain usage throughout all sites?
For a quick referece, make sure your set up mimic this example, where appropriate:
//CONFIG//
$config['cp_url'] = "http://engine.dev/admin.php";
$config['doc_url'] = "http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/";
$config['is_system_on'] = "y";
$config['allow_extensions'] = "y";
$config['site_label'] = "My Awesome Site";
$config['cookie_prefix'] = "";
$config['multiple_sites_enabled'] = "y";
index.php and admin.php site 1
NO CHANGES
index.php and admin.php site 2
$system_path = '../system';
/*---------------------------*/
$assign_to_config['site_name'] = 'msm_test';
$assign_to_config['cp_url'] = 'http://msm.dev/admin.php';
$assign_to_config['site_url'] = 'http://msm.dev';
--- admin ---
$system_path = '../system';
/*---------------------------*/
$assign_to_config['site_name'] = 'msm_test';
$assign_to_config['cp_url'] = 'http://msm.dev/admin.php';Cheers,

Hello beilz,
Have you tried the solutions listed above?
Can you tell me about your cookie settings and your setup?
Thank you,

Hi Shane,
I haven’t had any problems for the last few days so I might be ok - if it starts happening again I’ll get back to you.
thanks
Ben

Just wanted to chime back in and give an update.
I finally got this working, and what I had to do was manually set the cooke domain for each site through the control panel under Admin > Security & Privacy > Cookie Settings.
Site 1 Cookie Domain: .site1.com
Site 2 Cookie Domain: .site2.com
I wasn’t able to do this from the config file as it set the same cookie domain for both sites, causing it to break.
This fixes the login loop, but now if I’m logged into site1.com, I’m not auto logged in to site2.com.
Is this possible?
Thanks!

Hey Jon Horton,
Thank you for the update. Appreciate that.
I believe that this is expected and I am not sure how you would autologin to the second site. They are two different cookies at this point.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Cheers,

Thanks for clarifying that Shane. That wraps up all of my questions for now!
