Hello,

We’re running EE 2.4.0 and we’ve been unable to turn on template debugging in the control panel. After checking Yes on Display Template Debugging? and clicking submit, it reverts back to No.

I’ve checked config.php and debug is set to 1. Index.php also has the debug overide set to 1. I’m not sure if it matters, but I checked in php.ini and display_errors is also set to 1.

The site is hosted by MediaTemple. We’re using Beanstalk to manage a Git deployment.

Has anyone else encountered this kind of trouble turning on template debugging?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Double check in /system/expressionengine/config/config.php that you have not hard coded:

$config['template_debugging'] = n;

Generally, if an option can’t be changed in the Control Panel it’s because it’s been set explicitly in config.php

Here’s what we have in config.php:

$config['debug'] = '1';

From index.php:

$debug = 1;

From what I know, this should enable template debugging. Any other suggestions on where to look?

That should do it. Very confusing.

Can you unset those in the flat files and then see of using just the Control Panel to enable works?

Hi Shane,

We figured it out. We’re using Focus Lab’s master config and didn’t realize that file (config.env.php) was overriding the files in the EE system directory as well as the Control Panel setting.
