Any chance you guys are going to update SafeCracker File so it works with Low Variables?

Brandon at Pixel & Tonic says “you need to add all of the functions outlined in the LV Fieldtype Bridge docs (http://gotolow.com/addons/low-variables/docs/fieldtype-bridge), which basically duplicate all of the current functionality, but checks for $this->var_id rather than $this->field_id, etc..”

Can the Reactor Team make this change?

    Hi Anna,

Personally, I’d love to see SafeCracker File go away completely, it should be rolled into the standard File Field field type. Just my opinion though.

This does fall into Feature Request territory though, or you could ping one of the reactor team members directly 😉

If you’d like, I can migrate this over to the FR forum.

    Cheers,

So can I assume that’s a no, it will not be updated to work with Low Variables?

    Hey Anna,

Um… I wouldn’t say that. I was just giving you the options we have available to get this in front of the Devs.

Honestly, I don’t know the backlog with regards to SafeCracker File. I do know that if a Reactor Engineer were to make the changes and submit them for a pull request that they would be reviewed and *prolly* get it in there faster than a FR. But don’t quote me on that.

    Cheers,

For the record, SafeCracker File is my preferred field for allowing clients to upload images. The File field just doesn’t do it for me. Too much interface and too many clicks to get a file uploaded. SafeCracker File makes it a simple process of clicking browse and selecting the file. Boom, done. If it goes away, I hope you’ll release back to the dev community to keep it alive.

    Hey Anna,

Thanks for the feedback on SC File! I do agree with you on the way it behaves from the UX perspective.

My thoughts are more that it should be rolled together, and behave properly depending on the context. For instance, the standard File field is not really good, like you say, on the front end. However, it could behave like SC File in that context.

The biggest issue is most folks don’t know to install SC File, so that’s a hiccup. My other beef is that it sits there, all out of place, in /system/expressionengine/third_party like we (EL) don’t love it 😕

But I could wax on and on…

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,

It is unloved. But I love it.

You can help by finding someone internally to love it and make it work in Low Variables:)
