I’ve got this situation where a website is live and I now need to make structural changes to it. I’d like to have the content of the dev. copy of the site match the live site before I start. However if I export the whole DB I need to change all the paths again since the dev. server is different to the live server.

I’m not sure what the best way to go about this would be. Maybe just export some tables? Any help/insight would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Trev

We do this quite regularly. If you haven’t already, for internal links never hard-code it (don’t use http://site.com). Instead, use {site_url} or {path="template_group/template"} or some other appropriate tag. That way you can change domains without needing to fix template links.

If you’re using a basic EE setup without modifying folder locations, you should be able to use the module Deeploy Helper to get all your basic paths readjusted quickly. Deeploy Helper should be all you need to modify if you’ve built everything else with proper tags.

    Hope that helps.
