    Hi,

I have a client/friend who wants his site built with EE. He is currently with Fasthosts (bought domain name with them too). I have contacted support who haven’t been very helpful. Basically I asked if they do a hosting package which allows me to install EE. They couldn’t answer so I thought someone on here may an EE or two that they use on Fasthosts. If not can you recommend another hosting company that is good.

Also, is it best to get a virtual server to have most control. Dedicated is just too much and not needed. Is it even possible to run EE on Shared hosting? Any advice most welcome.

    Thanks,
    C

My staging environment is a shared, cPanel server with WestHost.  EE is working great there. The account isn’t very expensive either.

I will say that EE runs just a bit slowly on the shared server.  If your client can afford it, a VPS with WestHost offers impressive specs and would probably run the average website quite snappily on EE.

    Hi crashdesk

I’ve worked on a few EE sites hosted at Fasthosts and it’s been nothing but headaches, database connections go down regularly, limited support for mod_rewrite, slow servers…

EE will run quite happily on shared hosting, obviously shared probably won’t be suitable for *very* busy/popular sites but you can start on shared then upgrade as the site grows - it helps to have a host with a clear upgrade path!
