Please pardon me if this issue has been addressed elsewhere. I couldn’t find anything specific with a basic search.

I am running up against an issue with how much I can put into a field. I am populating a field with some somewhat lengthy tables, and EE is not storing all of the data I am inserting into the field. Is there a way around this? I really need all of these tables to stay within this one field.

    Thank you for any assistance!

I ran all my code through a utility that removed all the line breaks and white space. My data is still too long. After a little more research, it looks like there is a field size limit of 64K, which is almost exactly the size of the amount of characters it is storing.

So the question remains, can that limit be changed somehow?

    Hey soonercary,

Thank you for posting your question here on the ExpressionEngine forums.

You can modify the database, but any changes there will not be picked up in an upgrade and you would lose the data. So you will have to make sure you customize your update process to allow for this.

I can move this over to the Community Help Forum forum if you would like more information on how to do this. This will make your install “unsupported”.

    Thank you,

Thanks, but I’ll keep things like they are. I’ve changed how I’m doing things to work within this limitation.

Is this a limitation imposed by EE? Or some kind of default database setting? Or something else?

If it is set by EE, I would like to petition that this be increased in future versions if it wouldn’t create technical or significant performance problems. All I’m trying to do is display a page full of simple tabular information in html format that is all contained in a single EE field. The 64K limit is rather frustrating.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hey soonercary,

This is by design and is in the DB.

Please feel free to file a Feature Request! Not a bad idea!

If you need anything else, please just let me know by opening a new thread.

    Cheers,
