    Hello!

A (hopefully) simple question here. I am doing some maintenance on a website that is running ExpressionEngine version 2.3.1, build 20111017.

The comment forms on the site are receiving some spam, so I am trying to implement a CAPTCHA field to the comment form. The ExpressionEngine user guide outlines how to do this clearly enough, however for the life of me I cannot find the elusive “Channel Management” the guide refers to:

In order to use CAPTCHAs on the comment form, you must first enable the preference. In the Admin section of the Control Panel go to Channel Management and look for the “Enable Captcha for Comment Posting?” preferences. Set this preference to “Yes”.

I have looked through the “Admin” section of the control panel again and again and cannot find the “Channel Management” section anywhere! Is it named something else for version 2.3.1? I have searched for it on a website running version 2.5+ and I cannot find it there either.

I am using the “Comment” module to handle comments on the site, and would like to add the CAPTCHA to these forms. The other steps to the process are fine - I just can’t find “Channel Management”!

Am I blind, or is the user guide misleading?

    Many thanks,

    Harry

You should be able to find it here:

Admin > Channel Administration > Channels

Then click on Edit Preferences next to the channel you want to enable CAPTCHA on.

This will bring you to a page with a bunch of preferences. Look for the Comment Posting Preferences section and in there you should see the Enable CAPTCHA for Comment Posting? option.

I logged into a 2.5.1 site and couldn’t find this section and option ANYWHERE. It will only show up if you have the Comments module installed. I went to Addons > Modules and determined the module wasn’t installed. I installed it, went back to the Channel Preferences section and I was able to see the CAPTCHA/Comments options.

    Hope this works for you!

Thanks Manoj! That is exactly what I was looking for. I was searching for a section called “Channel Management” for so long, not sure why it didn’t occur to me to look in channel preferences, hah!

    Thanks again! Problem solved
