How can there NOT be a WYSIWIG Slideshow for EE2

I have a website that is currently running Wordpress and I’m evaluating EE.

While there are some incredible add ons for EE2, I am honestly surprised that there isn’t one WYSIWYG Slideshow module available for it. My site is run by editors who produce content on daily basis and some of this content requires a gallery/slideshow within the entry. They don’t know or need to know HTML to add a simple slideshow of images uploaded to that entry.

You could use custom fields to add files + captions. Alternatively you could use the ever valuable Matrix addon, or Channel images addon - both these addons could be used for a number of different purposes, no just slideshows.

Agreed that it can be done- but shouldn’t there be something that allows you to do this out of the box? I like Channel Images but I think there should be an add-on or something for it that allows you to click x number of images in an entry and insert a slideshow with them.

I’d think most EE devs use either Custom fields, Matrix, or Channel images to group images sets for use in slideshows etc, so there’s little point in having an addon just for that

Why not use Channel images if you like it, it’s relatively easy to use that to generate content for one or more slideshows.

The issue is that we have a team of five editors and they will be posting multiple entries per day- some of which will require the use of slideshows. Getting each one of them to learn that code and giving them access to it is not an ideal solution.

That’s the whole point 😊 Install either Matrix or Channel images, set up a custom field for a group of slideshow images and set the fieldtype to either Matrix or CI. That leaves your editors free to add slides if they want to, easily and without any technical knowledge. Finally, add the custom field tag into your template(s) inside your slideshow container, add the javascript and you’re set to go.

You, as the developer setup the slideshow in the template..then you use Matrix or Channel Images for file uploads. It works really well and the editors never have to touch any code. I particularly like Channel Images for it’s bulk upload of images.

Agreed! Matrix works fine for slideshows, but Channel Images makes it incredibly easier with the ability to bulk upload.
