Nginx and EE

I think this about rounds off my pre-sales questions(s).

I currently use Nginx and like it a lot. I can’t see any reason that Nginx couldn’t be used - the index.php re-writing issue is straightforward enough. Are there any other reasons that you are aware of that creates a dependency between EE and Apache or put another way, are you aware of EE users that successfully use Nginx?

    Many thanks

    Hey Gazley,

I think you have set a record for the amount of pre-sales threads. Nice.

To be honest, Nginx has it share of headaches and I do not ever recommend it. I am also biased, been administrating Linux since 2001. I love LAMP!

But if you already have it set up and it’s what you use, then go for it. Here is a pretty recent thread on the configurations and issues a user faced when meshing EE with Nginx. Worth a read.

So yes, there are users running on Nginx and they seem pretty happy.

Anything else I can help with?

    Cheers,

I’m pondering whether to get started, I just stick with a Lamp configuration. However, is the standard Lamp config OK for EE or is there a set of recommendations for Lamp configuration (with the exception of the remove index.php change).

The Nginx link you provided (btw thanks for that) has the OP making all kinds of Nginx config changes but I can’t work out whether he is mirroring what Apache does (or has to do for EE), or he is just paranoid and trying to be as restrictive as possible (nothing wrong with that either).

    Thanks again.

    Hey Gazley,

Plain old LAMP should be fine. Of course your site’s needs will dictate performance tuning and such, but EE is happy with LAMP, even a turnkey VM works great.

I think the user in the post I linked to is just trying to mimic Apache and be restrictive.

    Cheers,

Thank you. It’s great that you guys are so willing to help out here. This experience alone makes a purchasing decision a no-brainer. I can’t wait to get stuck in now I’m armed with the information I needed.

I took a look around the forums a few days ago. The common perception at least that I understood around EE was great support and a great community. I was surprised to see a longish thread that suggested that support had started to lag behind somewhat?

This seems contra to my experience here which has thus far been excellent.

Again, I appreciate your help and advice!
