    Hi there,

I have tried to establish whether my setup meets with your requirements. I did the following:

I used the MySQL command line to create a DB called ‘ee’, user ‘root’ and appropriate password specified. I gave this information to your ee_wizard form. This was against a brand new MySQL installation.

    I specified:

    http://192.168.0.189/ee_wizard/index.php

    This loaded your HTML form.

When I completed the form and submitted it, the URL changes to:

    http://192.168.0.189/ee_wizard/index.php?wizard=run

and the result is a totally blank page in the browser.

Any idea what may be happening here?

    Many thanks!

    Hi Gazley,

The blank page usually points to PHP errors. I just looked in the Wizard package, and it is supposed to report all errors by default.

Are you overriding any error output in your PHP installation?

Aside from the MySQL user and pw, are you specifying the correct host? I would assume localhost, but just checking.

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

    Hi Gazley,

Just a thought - since this is a fresh server, have you made sure that PHP can connect to MySQL?

    Seems like a likely culprit.

Not quite resolved this yet with Nginx but, MySQL was the initial problem as you originally thought. I have the wizard passing everything except segmented URLs. I’m working on the Nginx config for that and will get back to you when I have an answer. Thanks again for the wonderful support!

    Hi Shane

I can’t tell you much time I have thrown at this but even with the guys on Nginx IRC, I couldn’t get it to pass the segmented URL test. Someone in that room said they were using Nginx with EE, the tests failed yet it still worked fine.

Unfortunately, I can’t really work like that so FYI, I have just built a standard Ubuntu 12.04 LAMP server. I’ve succumbed to the dark side and will work with Apache/MySQL - my previous systems used Nginx/PostgreSQL. So, I’m a turn-coat for EE 😉

So, if I get stuck with anything LAMP/EE related, maybe you can help me out. I guess you can close this thread off given my decision to use LAMP.

    Cheers and thanks again.

    Hello Gazley,

    Sounds good.

Have you purchased an ExpressionEngine license?

I’ve been trying to resolve the Nginx issue. Now I’ve got the LAMP server running, I can run the EE site approval tool against it to ensure I can do segmented URLs (something I need). As soon as that passes, I’ll buy the licence and PDF book.

Have I asked too many questions?

    Hey Gazley,

No, not too many questions. Just wondering where you were in the process. That’s all. 😊

    Thanks!
