I’m just using the simple search option right now and notice if I enter a category name in search i only get results for entries with that keyword - as opposed to finding the Category itself. Is it possible using either simple or advanced search to have Categories displayed in search results? If not, can anyone point me to a plugin?

You are correct - category content is not searched.  Solspace Super Search or Low Search claim to search categories:

I looked at Super Search and not only is it v-expensive ($99) but there were a few gripes about it on devot-ee

It seems bizarre that EE does not search categories - one would have thought that category names were a pretty obvious thing people would be searching no?

I have heard great things about Super Search, but I have not used it, so I cannot speak personally to it’s awesomeness.

Feel free to file a Feature Request for the searching of categories! It’s one of the best ways to make your opinion known.
