    Hello,

We are evaluating EE for a replacement to our large MT install. We really like the way EE handles content types (channels), tempting, editing content etc.
But we are having some problems around MSM and Members Permissions.

Let me explain first how our MT install works. I work for a large media company that has News, TV and Radio properties. In MT we have some 400 “blogs”, some are actual blogs but most are mini-sites for the different radio/tv shows. Each show site can be different from a content structure point of view, thats why we like EE channels. My Dept takes care of the MT system as a whole, we manage the system, it’s users and creation of new blogs. The users are in the News/TV/Radio departments and are given access to one or more blogs in MT. MT is set up with a few roles:

Blog Admin - can do everything and add new users to the blog
Editor - can post and edit any entry
Contributor - can only add new draft entires
    Designers - setup/edit the templates

When a user is added to a blog they are given a role, they can have a different role for each blog they are on. They can be an admin on one and a editor on another.

During our evaluation of EE we have run into a few problems mostly around members and member groups.
Unlike MT the member group (‘roles’) have permissions to each site. You would have to create multiple member groups for each site in EE, but each user can only be apart of one group at a time, so you would have to create a member group for each user. This would be come unmanageable when you have dozens of sites and users. We would like to create a few member groups and assign users to those groups for each site in EE. So they could be a Admin on one and an Editor on another, and then not have access at all to a 3rd site. MSM doesn’t seem to work this way?

The other problem we are having is that when a user, that is not a super admin, creates a channel they can not see the channel cause the member group they are in is not assigned to the channel. So if you create a member group that can add new channels after they create it they are not assigned to it so they can’t edit it. But they created it?

    Thanks
    David
