We have EE 2.3.1 installed with about 5 extra sites adding up to 8 sites.  Looking at the directions for updating from 2.3.1 to 2.4, it’s not clear to me if I need to also replace each site’s individual index.php file.

    3. Restore Modified Files

Files and settings that are specific to your site should now be restored from the backup you made in Step 1.

Restore any modifications made to the following files, such as updating the system folder name or path:
          admin.php
          index.php

If you are using the Multiple Site Manager, the same should be done for each MSM site’s index.php and/or admin.php file.

I’ve updated the main admin.php and index.php file but don’t know if I then need to copy the same new index.php file into each site’s directory replacing what’s already there.

If so, what odd behavior might we see if we don’t?  Has the index.php file changed at all between these versions?

    Hello chris thacker,

Yes, please replace the index file and be sure to carry over any modifications to the file. Regardless of MSM, the update steps are best completed even if they seem redundant, this helps us troubleshoot should anything go wrong.

    Thank you,

    Thank you,

maybe it’s only me but this doesn’t seem very clear in the update instructions.
