    This question may be related to a resolved thread.

    You can currently use third_party_path to move the /system/expressionengine/third_party directory but there is no way to move the /themes/third_party directory. I *thought* this was going to be added in 2.5. Is this coming in an upcoming release?

    Hi Reusser Design, LLC,

    Thank you for your question and input!

    The isn’t an override available for themes/third_party in 2.5

    If it is something you would like to see, please file a Feature Request!

    Cheers,

    It would be quite difficult to simply change the /themes/third_party/ directory (even in future releases) as you’re likely to break all third_party extensions that reference to /themes/third_party/

    ... and since there isn’t a config variable established for that, I could guarantee that practically every extension references to that directory is hardcoded.

    For example, pixelandtonic’s matrix builds the third_party path like so:

    <?php

    $theme_folder_url = defined('URL_THIRD_THEMES') ? URL_THIRD_THEMES : $this->EE->config->slash_item('theme_folder_url').'third_party/';

    ?>

    Thanks, guys! Just posted a follow up on the Feature Requests forum: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/217544/

    Jarrett, thanks for your insight. I made a suggestion in the topic about allowing devs to put their theme files in the same system/expressionengine/third_party folders. That would consolidate addons like Matrix and Playa into a single folder instead of two of them.
