    Hi there,

Anyway to have multiple authors edit an entry?

I am working on a site for a large organization and need multiple people to update an entry. I would like to do this with individual logins rather then giving each team a login to edit the needed entries.

    Thanks in advance!

Sure - so long as they are all in a member group with the proper access privileges they would all be able to edit the same entries.

Just keep in mind there is no record locking - if two people are editing at the same time the last one to save wins.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion. Let me explain in more detail what I am after.

The site is built with Structure to create pages and some of these pages have subpages, lets simply call this a section.

We are also using the Better Workflow Module.

We have about 30-40 people in the organization that will be updating the various sections of the site. Each section will have a various number of people updating the content.

Here is the tricky part. Some people are updating multiple sections. I do not want these users to have five passwords to remember. I want each user to have one login that will allow them to only update the section that they need to update.

    Example:
PersonA needs to update Section1, Section2 and Section3.
    PersonB updates Section1 only.
    PersonC updates Section2 only.
    PersonD updates Section3 only.
PersonE updates Section3 and Section4 only.

How do I allow PersonA and PersonE update the same sections?

    Current setup:
I have a member group called Editors. Then each person is assigned a section they can edit. This only allows one person to edit each section. Not the best scenario for those people updating multiple sections.

    Possible Idea:
Create a member group for each section then associate a member with those member groups.
Is this possible, if so how?

    Hoped that help some!

Also thanks for the help and the suggestion.

Might be better off posting in the Structure forums - I’ve not used that.  Also not sure what BetterWorkflow adds.  Helps to mention those things up front..😉

Natively EE permissions are all group-based.  Essentially for every unique set of permissions you need a unique group.

1 person = 1 section is doable, you just assign them as author and only let them edit entries they author.

1 person, multiple sections = new member group, possibly for that one person.

Thanks for the input! I’ll try posting in Structure as well.

Even if the site was not built with Structure or any modules how would I assign multiple authors to an entry to edit the entry. This seems to not be capable with EE at this point in time.

Again thank you for the help and the suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

Natively you can’t assign a group of people to a group of entries.  You can put those people into a member group and map that to a channel, but they’d have access to all entries in the channel and not just a subset.

Figured as much. Back to the old drawing board then.

I really appreciate the help, and congrats on going mobile!
