Full disclosure: After a number of EE enabled sites I’m finally faced with implementing membership functionality. Given that the project also includes CartThrob we decided on Profile:Edit. It just made good sense.

That being said, if I’m going to sidestep the standard EE mambership templates and use P:E instead I’d like to get a better feel for best practices, a check list of must-dos, etc. For example, I need a sign up screen, a login screen, a forgot password screen, etc. etc. Or, what examples for a Remember Me check box. Certainly, it doesn’t make sense to reinvent the wheel. Perhaps there are ways to get all the standard stuff out of the way? Quickly? And then move on to customization? Perhaps somewhere there’s a list of these templates?

Note: Admittedly I have not yet read all the docs cover to cover. But my sense is, I’d like to get more background on why and then matrix that to the what. I tend to find that often the EE doc tend to focus on what can be done and how. But not too much on why, when and what-ifs.

Links to specific blog posts, etc. are welcomed. I know I’ve taken a big bite but it’s certainly not rocket science - provided I don’t have to do a ton of experimenting and discovery on my own.

    Thanks -
    Mark

If I’m not mistaken Profile Edit installs a set of basic templates anyway if you install the add-on - maybe start there?
