That’s my point of view, also. When I tell someone that I think they should ask someone who speaks their native language, that’s because they’ll be able to actually articulate what they’re trying to ask to them. Hopefully then that person can help. I’m not telling someone to get a translator, I’m telling them how I think they can be better helped. If that’s rude, then so be it.
Regarding me feeling I’m an “unofficial moderator”, as I’ve said, I have no desire to be a spokesperson for EllisLab or CodeIgniter. I actually specifically don’t want to be one of those people, because frankly I’m tired of being nice. If I think you’re being lazy and ungrateful, I’m not going to help you. If I think you’re too much of a noob to understand CodeIgniter, I will say that, because it is my honest opinion! I’ve played the public servant game for too long in other outlets, and I’m tired of catering to people who expect everything and give nothing. Some of the people who post here literally don’t put a second’s worth of time into trying to solve a problem on their own before they ask a question here. And that’s pathetic. If people can’t figure out that the Ignited Code forum (with its nice long description) is not the place to ask generic questions, then they should be told to basically pay more attention. Or the thread should be moved where appropriate (a simple “Moved to General Code” message along with that is 100% awesome for me - it is non-confrontational and makes a clear point at the same time). Personally I don’t see why these things haven’t been regulated since I’ve been active here. Out of the entire moderator staff, ONE PERSON (Kevin up there) has a post in the last two years, and some haven’t posted in almost FOUR.
I volunteer to help keep this forum organized and spam-free, for everyone’s benefit. Whether that entails a moderator title or not, I don’t care. I suppose if it did involve a moderator title I could clean myself up and simply ignore anything that I felt negatively about. It’s someone else’s decision whether that happens or not. If it doesn’t, I don’t mind. So long as someone does something to help make this place a little better. Forgive me for wanting to improve a place where I spend a lot of my time.
