@insiteFX, Once again you are wrong.

FYI, I visit the forums every day and flag spam when I see it and have emailed Ellislab quite a few times.
And only a moron would flag 100 spam messages from the same individual, just report the User’s profile.

Both you and @Aken seem to think you’re the unofficial moderators. It’s not your position to tell people where to post or what they should post. It’s also rude to say to non-english speaking members they should get a translator or tell noobs that CI might not be the framework for them.

In the last week I asked somebody to rewrite their post because it was so poorly written that there’s no way that anyone could understand it. I wasn’t trying to be rude, and I don’t think it was taken that way. In my own frustration, I believe I have said things here that might seem rude. I don’t want to be a moderator or spam patroller. I just want to enjoy a forum and have intelligent conversation with people that speak my language. By language, I don’t mean English, I mean PHP 😊

There’s nothing inherently wrong with telling someone that they’ve failed to articulate their problem, and there’s nothing wrong with letting people seeking help know that their questions should be optimized for the reader’s time. But if a post is so poorly written that I can’t begin to make heads or tails out of it, I just don’t bother helping the person improve at all.

Telling someone that their question is pure crap is effectively helping them, provided that you see some glimmer of hope that the person may just take your advice. Otherwise, you just get frustrated and burned out.

When I see someone that can’t be bothered to even attempt to form a coherent sentence (no capitalization, text-speak [pls, r u, dis, etc], no punctuation) .. I just move on. Such posts aren’t worth the few seconds of my life needed to form a reply.

That’s my point of view, also. When I tell someone that I think they should ask someone who speaks their native language, that’s because they’ll be able to actually articulate what they’re trying to ask to them. Hopefully then that person can help. I’m not telling someone to get a translator, I’m telling them how I think they can be better helped. If that’s rude, then so be it.

Regarding me feeling I’m an “unofficial moderator”, as I’ve said, I have no desire to be a spokesperson for EllisLab or CodeIgniter. I actually specifically don’t want to be one of those people, because frankly I’m tired of being nice. If I think you’re being lazy and ungrateful, I’m not going to help you. If I think you’re too much of a noob to understand CodeIgniter, I will say that, because it is my honest opinion! I’ve played the public servant game for too long in other outlets, and I’m tired of catering to people who expect everything and give nothing. Some of the people who post here literally don’t put a second’s worth of time into trying to solve a problem on their own before they ask a question here. And that’s pathetic. If people can’t figure out that the Ignited Code forum (with its nice long description) is not the place to ask generic questions, then they should be told to basically pay more attention. Or the thread should be moved where appropriate (a simple “Moved to General Code” message along with that is 100% awesome for me - it is non-confrontational and makes a clear point at the same time). Personally I don’t see why these things haven’t been regulated since I’ve been active here. Out of the entire moderator staff, ONE PERSON (Kevin up there) has a post in the last two years, and some haven’t posted in almost FOUR.

I volunteer to help keep this forum organized and spam-free, for everyone’s benefit. Whether that entails a moderator title or not, I don’t care. I suppose if it did involve a moderator title I could clean myself up and simply ignore anything that I felt negatively about. It’s someone else’s decision whether that happens or not. If it doesn’t, I don’t mind. So long as someone does something to help make this place a little better. Forgive me for wanting to improve a place where I spend a lot of my time.

@Aken, The forums are for members to have discussions about, and get assistance with, CodeIgniter related problems. They are not for you to tell people that they are lazy or that they shouldn’t use CI. If you don’t like what you see in a post and don’t want to offer assistance then keep your mouth shut, nobody wants to know your opinion.

No matter what your intentions are, your attitude together with InsiteFX’s is creating an atmosphere of arrogance and intolerance in the forums.

If we fight, we appear more ignorant than the spammers. Let’s just agree there is a problem, and hope that a smart solution is coming soon. Now that we have got somebody’s attention, that’s the best we can hope for.

Then I guess I’ll shut my mouth entirely, because apparently I have nothing positive to contribute to this forum. Looks like you won’t have to worry about either of us. Enjoy the spammers.

I assume everyone here is familiar with that icon of our culture, the original Monty Python version of the Spam song?  The next time we all meet (it could happen) in a suitable drinking establishment, let’s join our voices in a rendition of that tune.  If this forum were less popular, we wouldn’t be having the problem, so take it as a sign of success…

That sounds a lot like what a moderator would say 😊

“If nominated, I will not run, if elected I will not serve…”
Not my idea of a way to stay sane and a good way to offend just about everyone.
