This one pains me to have to post here, but I’m stumped (it may well be a host issue but let’s see…).

Our intern accidentally pushed her local site files to our staging server and now it won’t connect to the DB again. It’s EE 1.7.0

I’ve checked the user/pass/dbname (about 30 times) and even verified them using the dbtest.php (it connected no prob). I can connect using the same settings via Navicat and even phpmyadmin. I’ve optimized the tables (see, I’m desperate for solutions). EE just won’t connect.

    Thanks all!

    Hello Ty,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

What version of MySQL is on this server? What version of PHP? If those are not right, you will get this error as well.

You can also check the server logs. The failure might show up there.

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,
Well, nothing changed in the 15 min between when it was working and after she did the git pull but let me see…
    It’s Dreamhost, running MySQL 5.0, PHP 5.2.17

    Hi Ty,

The thought being that the version of ExpressionEngine in dev and the server settings on the stage/prod server might not be compatible. Sounds funny, but I have seen it more than once.

You sound very sure that the password that is being used by ExpressionEngine is set correctly. If you tested the password and it’s known to be good, and ExpressionEngine is using that password in the config file and not able to connect, then I am not sure what else to try. Everything seems to be pointing to a configuration issues, especially if the thing that broke a working instance was a git pull.

Can you make sure you have the correct files in place one more time?

If all is well there, we may need to login and take a look around.

    Thanks,
