Possible to de-install MSM when my 2nd site is the one I want to keep?

I have a MSM site where the default site is unused, leaving only 1 other site in the install that we are using. For simplicity’s sake and for ease of updating, I’d like to remove MSM entirely and have just a regular old non-MSM install of EE. Is this possible? How?

    Hi Rory,

    Thanks for your question!

In theory, yes. I have never tested the theory though.

What version of ExpressionEngine and MSM are you using? My recommendation would be to take the first site offline in the Control Panel and then only access the second site through its dedicated login.

I don’t know that we’ve ever had anyone try this before, but I could see where there would be repercussions.

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,
That would allow me view the CP in an environment that makes it look like the MSM doesn’t exist, but in reality the MSM is installed. I’m looking for a true de-installation of the MSM where only site #2 out of the 3 sites would remain. This seems to me the best way to have an easier upgrade path, easier maintenance in terms of upgrading add-ons etc. Is this a pie in the sky idea?

    rory,

that’s not easily done and as far as I know there is no official method to accomplish this. Mike Boyink wrote up a tutorial for splitting off an MSM site a long time ago for EE 1.x which might help point you in the right direction.

ok. I think that if there isn’t a clear path, I’ll just leave it as is. thanks anyway! case closed.
