Can you create something like a channel group?

The problem: when you create a channel you can only associate 1 channel field group.
So for example, on the home page I have several channel field groups since they require different information.

This works in principle, but when it comes time to editing a part of the homepage(an entry), it can be a bit hard to find the right entry because there’s no way to filter the entries by template/page or by a “channel group”.

The only thing I can think of is naming my channels like: templatepage_channel
So I’d have something like this for my channel names:
    - homepage_prices
    - homepage_contacts
    - homepage_copyright

Am I approaching this correctly? Is there a better way to do it? Even perhaps a plugin?

    Cheers,

    Trev

    Hey Trev,

There is a bit of discussion about this that is ongoing within the community. A couple of the well-known guys have been arguing for doing away with field groups altogether.

Did you know that you can currently hide fields and rearrange the tabs on the entry creation/edit page? While creating a new entry, look for the link to your right that says “Show toolbar.” You can set up different fields for each of your member groups to see when they are adding or editing fields for that channel.

You can also display several channel types on your homepage. There is no need to create an over-arching field group that applies to, for instance, the news entries AND rotating banner advertisements.
