Special Characters Displaying as in Entries and Templates

I’ve just finished upgrading a site from EE 1.6.8 to 1.7.2. Unfortunately, since upgrading, the site is displaying accented characters as . As far as I can tell, everything is set up for utf-8 character encoding, from the database collation, to EE, to the HTML templates, but for some reason, these characters are still being shown incorrectly even though they look ok in the database.

According to phpMyAdmin, MySQL connection collation is utf8_general_ci and the database and tables are set that way as well. In the DB, I see the phrase “chèque à la table des inscriptions à la réunion” as is, but on the front end of the site or in the template editor I see “chque la table des inscriptions la runion”. It’s the same for entries.

    EE: 1.7.2
    PHP: 5.2.17
    MySQL: 4.1.22
    Apache: ?

I was able to solve this problem by making the changes suggested in this post:

    Hi Eric,

As you have discovered, this is related to using UTF-8 for the database. ExpressionEngine 2 requires this, but EE 1 does not.

I’m glad you were able to get this sorted out for yourself!

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,
