    Hi

    I’m on ee 2.4

I’m trying to understand the inner workings of the filemanager:

When I add images in my local MAMP set up I just drop them in the directory after which I synchronize the Destination in the File Upload Preferences. Often I end up with double files and I have to delete them and redo the synchro to end up with just one file.

So a lot of extra work, could someone explain the correct or painless way of working with images?

To be more specific: It happens when I delete a file in the filemanager after which I drop the same file in the same directory and synchronize the directory. See attached image.

    Hi oxford,

I wasn’t able to replicate your experience using ExpressionEngine 2.4 and MAMP on my local installation.

I uploaded one file via the File Manager.

I added a second file by placing it in my upload destination and syncing files.

I then deleted the second file via the File Manager.

I replace the second file manually and synced files again.

    No duplicate entries were created.

Did I miss something in the process?

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

I delete a file in the file manager. After that I drop the same file manually (so not in the CP) in the same directory I synchronize and end up with a double entry in the file manager (see image).

Then I delete the files and add the file again manually in the directory > synchronize > double entry.

When I delete one of the files I end up with an image (see image two), that can’t be edited.

What seems to be the solution is to synchronize after a file has been deleted. When I add the same file after synchronize there is no double.

Another ‘issue’ is that pagination is shown in the filemanager where there are no more files like in this case 4 files are present in the directory and pagination is shown.

    Hi oxford,

Thank you for the additional explanation. However, I was still unable to replicate on my own server.

Did you get to 2.4 via update or a clean installation?

Your pagination quirk is outlined in this bug report.

Are you using any add-ons? What version of MAMP are you using, including the selected PHP/MySQL versions?

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

It’s a clean install, although I have upgraded from the freelancer to the commercial version, but I’m not sure what that involved ...

    MAMP 2.0.2 (current 2.0.5) PHP 5.3.6, MySQL 5.5.9

    add ons:
    1) plug ins
    GWcode CatMenu
    HJ Social Bookmarks
    MD Detect Page Type

    2) extensions
    Accessible Captcha
    Low Seg2Cat
    MD Character Count (for CP)
    Mo’ Variables

    Hey oxford,

When you say that you upgraded from Freelancer to Commercial, did you upgrade the software as well? Freelancer and Commercial are different software packages. You can tell by checking out the footer in the Control Panel. That will tell you what you are running. Does it say Freelancer?

I am also unable to reproduce this in MAMP.

Can you double check that your paths for the upload destinations are correct and that the upload destinations have our suggested file permissions?

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

The CP states: “v2.4.0 - Build: date 20120123”
    No mention of freelancer

Mind you in my template debugging info I noticed: “(0.002563 / 7.35MB) Snippets (Keys): ... |last_segment_category_image|freelancer_version|paginated|page_offset|...”

I’ve, again, checked my paths which are ok, and the permissions are properly set to 777.

My work around: synchronize after deleting any files, seems to solve this problem for me so if you like you can close this thread.

    Hello oxford,

That is odd. I will close this out, but if this returns or your fix becomes a pain, please open a new thread and reference this one.

    Thanks!
