MSM or regular license?

I run two blogs and have two EE 2.x commercial licenses for them. Currently, I’m designing a third site and have an idea for a fourth.

I’m moving to a new webhost that offers what they call addon domains:

An addon or pointed domain is one that pulls content from a subfolder of an account rather than the top level web folder. This permits clients to set up domain2.com under domain1.com without visitors knowing domain2.com is not a standalone account.

I know I can run multiple blogs off of one install because I’ve done it before. However, all the content was pulled into the main blog. These would have to be standalones and will take advantage of the addon domains.

I’m assuming that I can use one install of EE and just point the templates to different channels, but is that the best way to do that? Or will MSM better suit my needs?

    Hi Wendell,

Thanks for choosing ExpressionEngine and thank you for your question!

Either approach is possible, but MSM provides the flexibility to manage the entire installation from a unified Control Panel.

The upside is the ability to share content, users, and templates where you choose, but to also separate those things where you need to.

The only question with MSM is the license requires that the web sites somehow be related products or services offered by the same organization.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Cheers,

    Hi Derek,

    Thanks for your reply.

After thinking it over, I’m going to stay with the dual installs. I think the MSM is overkill for what I need right now.
