This question may be related to a resolved thread.

Trying to update 2.31 to 2.4 - getting blank admin.php screen. Running on racksapce cloudsites. Have it set as “DEV” site - even using separate database. But I can’t get to the admin.

    help?

    Hello jld,

I see this is your first post, welcome to the forums!

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Can you check your config.php file and tell me what the line says for version?

I am not sure what you mean by DEV site and a separate database. Did you upgrade the current install, DB and all, or did you create a new database?

What do you see when you direct your browser to index.php?

One last question. Did you get a chance to run the Server Wizard before the install? Did everything check out?

Please let me know the what you find and we can go from there.

    Cheers,

Turns out…the install directory was still installed. Even though I had told our SVN server to delete it…it remained. So I manually deleted the install via FTP and it worked.

My explanation on dev and live servers is based on our version tracking (subversions) workflow. Normally we “share” the database between them. But in this instance, I chose to duplicate the database for the DEV server environment and work through my issues.

    Hey jld,

Gotcha. I am glad things are working again.

Just curious as a Linux geek, why Subversion and not Git? Nothing hidden in my question, I have used SVN heavily in the past. Do you like branching in SVN? Is it because your repos contain sensitive information and need to stay local? Feel free to ignore me as this has nothing to do with support.

Is there anything else I can do for you?

    Cheers,

Honestly, simply because we started with Subversions. Plus our host repo only handles SVN. And we don’t really branch. It’s really for straight web development where we have a dev site and live site. So our deploys are infrequent. It’s just the workflow we use. And currently, I’m too lazy to switch I suppose. Someday we’ll probably switch.

    Hey jld,

I hear that a lot when I ask this question. Either it’s where someone started and it’s working so no need to do anything else, or they spent the time to learn it and love it. Thanks for answering my question. 😊

If you need anything else, please just let us know by opening a new thread.

    Cheers,
