I’ve currently got User Registrations set to “Manual Activation by Administrator” which is perfect.

But one of my clients pointed out that, people who register should still get an email notification of signup and still be able to approve their email address.

Because we still have the situation of people signing up, with dodgy email addresses. Having an approval email still makes sure they can access that email address.

Can this currently not be set?

    I want to:

    - Send a “Welcome” email when they register
    - In that email, allow them to approve their email address.

    Hey Shape,

Thank you for posting your question here on the ExpressionEngine forums.

Yes there is. Change Manual Activation by Administrator to Self-activation via email.

Self-activation via email: New members are sent an email. Inside the email is a special activation link that the user must visit within two days to activate their account. By default ExpressionEngine uses this method since it ensures that the email address the user submitted when signing up is valid.

Is that what you are looking for?

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane

Thanks for the reply! But yeah i know about that option in EE. Because it’s currently set to Manual Activation by Administrator.

But what im asking, is… Is it possible to have it set to Manual Activation by Administrator, BUT STILL have some form of email sent to the user that has signed up. Stating they need to ‘validate their email address’

This seems a good idea, because anybody could sign up with any email address, and the admin could validate their account and wouldn’t know if the email address is valid or not.

    Does that make sense?

    Hey Shape,

Gotcha. Unfortunately, out of the box, the answer is no.

You could add to the Feature Requests that I believe are already there. 😊 This is a common one.

There are Add-Ons that give you more power when it comes to dealing with members. That might be your best bet here unless you have some serious PHP chops and feel like writing your own Add-On? That would be awesome too.

I hope this helps, and sorry that my answer is probably not what you wanted to hear.

    Cheers,

    Hello Support,

I have a member driven self with self registration and activation. Question; When a user self activates, is there any way to edit the email that is sent to them? It doesn’t appear to be using the Member Account Notification Email.

    Thanks,
    R

    Hello Shane,

Just to clarify, if a user fills out the registration form, they are sent the “Member Account Activation Instructions” email and when the activate they should be sent the “Member Account Validation Notification” email? Currently the first email is firing but the send is not using the template. Can you help?

    Hey Ricky,

That’s odd. There is a template for “Member Account Validation Notification” but you are saying that you edited this and it’s not being used?

What version of ExpressionEngine are you currently running?

    Cheers,

    Hey kyleracki,

I am a little confused, sorry.

So the email is sending, but ti does not have the formatting or the email does not get sent at all?

And you do have this set? (see attached)

    Thank you,

    Hello Shane,

I do have Self-activation via email selected. An email is firing but not the one in the template as the content is different.
