    What is the difference here?

I use a template where I can enter content into the channels and carriage returns show as returns and space on the Web pages.

I’ve copied the exact template code to another template, changed the channels, and when I enter contents, I have to enter breaks in code (can’t show you because it just makes breaks here) to make carriage returns and spaces between paragraphs. They both draw from the same CSS and header.

One template operates one way, the other differently. Where is the factor that makes it different?

Thanks for a wise word on this little mystery.

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for posting your question here on the ExpressionEngine forums.

I think I know what’s going on here. You can set the formatting on Channel Fields so that carriage returns are equal to line breaks. It sounds like you are posting into a different channel with a different channel field that does not have any formatting selected. That would explain why changing channels yields different results.

To check this, please go to your Control Panel and navigate to Admin->Channel Administration->Channel Fields and then select the channel fields group you desire. Click on the text entry field in question and look for “Default Text Formatting for This Field” and see what it is set to.

Compare the two channel fields and I think you will find that one is set to format and the other is not. Change to the desired setting and enjoy life!

    I hope this helps.

Please let me know if I can be of any more help.

    Cheers,

Shane—right on target, exactly right. Thank you.

I knew I missed something that made the difference, but just couldn’t find it. That was a quick fix, I’m aware of it now, and all is good.

    I really appreciate it!
