We just finished a website that handles a lot of content via categories. Our client wants to have different groups and each group to be able to post to certain categories. They want group X to be able to assign an entry to categories A and B, but not category C. Group Y will be able to assign entries to category C and D. And so on..
Does anyone have an idea of how I can accomplish this?

Currently this is not possible in EE. But check and see if this Member Categories plug-in will do it for you.

you can try with hook and assign respective categories to the entries submitted member of particular member group.
