Hi, Im having some issues with a channel Ive created that allows uploading MP3 files. I can upload as superadmin no problems at all, however for the member account I have created the upload fails and they are presented with an error message ‘The file could not be written to disk’

Im pretty certain I have set all the permissions correctly and they are having no problems uploading images within the same channel either.

Any ideas what I maybe missing or have left unchecked?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hey Scott,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

    It sounds like permissions.

Is the upload location different for images vs. Mp3? For example, is the file upload location for images set to images and the upload location set to Any? That would make sense, the group could be allowed to upload to one location within a channel, but not another location.

Can you check Content->Files->File Upload Preferences in the Control Panel and check the destinations? Near the bottom you will see which groups are allowed to upload files to that location. If the user is not in a group that is allowed, then they will not be able to.

Please let me know what you find.

    Cheers,

I have that problem too. In my case it is a PDF which refuses to upload by an other member group than Super Admins. All permissions and allowed groups are checked and OK.

The problem is in EE 2.4.0

I got it. I noticed it was not with all PDF’s, but some. It is caused by XSS filtering. Go to Admin > Security and pivacy and check ‘No’ to ‘Apply XSS Filtering to uploaded files’.

I now remember I had this problem before in other sites. Perhaps the default should be ‘No’ to avoid problems? The PDF in question was a perfectly normal PDF, so I see no reason why it was blocked by XSS filtering.

Hi Guys and thanks. It was the XSS filtering that was the problem, all sorted now 😉

    Scott, Sjoerd,

Glad you guys got that all worked out. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

I’ve just had the same issue on EE 2.4 and found that turning off the XSS filtering does the trick.
