We have a project that we need some perspectives on.  While we have done projects somewhat similar, certain demands of this project necessitate that we think “out of the box”

    Objective:

Events are created each month within a department calendar
The department (channel?) creates the monthly calendar
The department (channel?) belongs a certain division
The division (channel?) belongs to a certain location
The location (channel?) belongs to a certain state.

We need to allow the department to create the calendar but in doing so, associate the entry/event with the correct “tier”.

On the front end, when a visitor attempts to see the correct calendar of events, they would select the state, they are only given the capacity to select then from a list of locations within that state, and from within the location, only from the list of divisions, and then from within the division, only those departments, which would then result in viewing the correct calendar.

We believe that utilizing EE with P&T Playa and Solspace Calendar (or matrix) may work (state related to location, location to division, division to department and then entries on the department’s monthly calendar.  However, when I then create an event entry in the backend, how can I ensure that the entry is associated with the chain correctly?

    Thoughts, ideas, counsel?

    Hey DigitalDesigns,

Thank you for posting your question.

This sounds very doable after reading over Playa and Calendar. How they integrate together to form what you are looking for, that I am not sure of. I have not used either of those products. I have a feeling you would not need to worry about that as it sounds like Solspace Calendar is already based on channel entries.

What I can do is move this thread to the Community Help Forum where I am sure this or something like it has been done before.

Does that sound like a plan?

    Cheers,

You bet - should have posted there anyway.  Would appreciate any perspectives we get with anyone that has done this sort of thing before.

    Further decisions:

    We have reduced to:

    Location | Division | Department | Calendar

We have implemented Playa and Solspace Calendar and it looks as though we are getting closer

The Big challenge now is the Chained Select we want to use on the home page - with dynamic field “appearance”
(the user only sees “Select a Location” - once they select a location, the field of division shows up…etc until the calendar is selected at which point it would take the visitor to the month calendar view.

I see some help with chained select a LONG time ago…does anyone have an updated codeset?
