It seems there are a couple of add-ons that allow drafts of a channel entry to be saved and then published with a click of a button. What we would like though is the ability to specify a time and date to automatically publish the draft.

Does anyone know if there is an existing solution for this before we go down the custom route?

We do it all the time: Set the date in the future. show_future_entries defaults to no.

Thanks for the reply Dylan, but I don’t think you entirely understood what we would like to do.

Setting the date in the future would be suitable if the entry wasn’t already published, and you would like it to appear on a certain time/date.

However we have existing published entries that we would like to update, and then set a time/date for the updates to appear.
