Is there any practical difference between EE Avatars and Member Photos?

Also, has anyone compared the use of Gravatars vs. EE Photos/Avatars for performance?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Jim,

    Thank you for your question!

The difference between between EE Avatars and Member Photos is where they are displayed. The Avatar is displayed along with the user’s posts. The Member Photo is used displayed in the member’s profile. The idea would be to have an avatar that looks okay being a little smaller in the forums, but having a real photo of the user in the profile.

I have not done a comparison between the two, but I would be happy to move this thread to the Community Help Forum where someone may have tried the two.

    I hope this helps.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Cheers,

    Hello Shane,

From the docs it appears Avatars and Member Photos can be used for both purposes. Sorry for not being clear, but I’m asking primarily about whether there are particular instances where one is preferable over the other and whether there is a performance difference between one over the other in any area?

    Hello Jim,

I am not sure if there is a performance difference. They seem pretty interchangeable.

If you would like, I can move this thread to the Development and Programming forum. A developer there might know more about it.

    I hope this helps.

Can I answer any other questions?

    Cheers,
