I have a 1.6.8 install that I attempted to upgrade to 2.4.  When I initiate the update with http://www.mysite.com/admin.php, I get the error message.

“Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.”

I completed all steps as outlined in:  http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update_from_1.x.html

As instructed I did ” Copy your old 1.x version of system/config.php to system/expressionengine/config/config.php”. I ran without editing the config.php file, error when admin.php run.  Then edited to point the system variable to /system rather than original setting /oldsystem, resulted in error when admin.php run.  Both the same error.

I did some research and found this thread and was hopeful as it appeared same/similar -http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/138453/P18.  But unfortunately did not have a resolution.

    Hello lmumford,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Let’s try and troubleshoot a few things with the configuration.

Does your $system_path = ‘’; in index.php have the correct path listed and is the system folder really called system?

Did you run the server wizard before starting? I am curious about the version of MySQL and PHP that are on the server.

Are the permissions correct? Sometimes something like folder permissions will get in the way, especially if you set them, then move on to try something else and end of using ftp again which can in some instances reset the file permissions.

Again, I am sorry you are running into this. I will do what it takes to get you back up and running again.

    Cheers,
