    This is a very basic question. We have entries for a certain channel set to closed after they’ve been published so we can preview them first.

    The email that we receive for each new entry has a link like the one below. But the link is of little use to an administrator because of the fact that the entry is closed initially.

    Is there a way to provide a link to a preview of a closed entry on the site? Or possibly a link to the entry in the control panels edit section? Suggestions?

    You can modify this email template by going to:-

    Design > Message Pages > Email Notifications > Admin Notification of New Entries

    From there you probably can do what you’re after, perhaps doing something like

    A new entry has been posted in the following channel:
    {channel_name}

    The title of the entry is:
    {entry_title}

    Posted by: {name}
    Email: {email}

    To read the entry please visit:
    {entry_url}/preview/

    And then having the entry template have an {if last_segment=="preview} conditional allowing it to read status=“closed”?

    How about creating a workflow for your content management:

    http://betterworkflow.electricputty.co.uk/

    from their site:

    Better Workflow is an ExpressionEngine add-on from Electric Putty that adds inline preview, entry drafts and approval processes to the EE control panel. With Better Workflow, you will be able to work on a ‘draft copy’ of a live entry, preview your changes and then ‘submit for approval’, all without affecting the live website. When the new content has been approved and published the ‘draft copy’ replaces the ‘entry’ and the live site is updated.

    I’ve never used the system, but I had read about it - sounds like it may apply to your situation?

    Hi thefifthlion,

    The suggestion by Andrew can even be expanded to check for a logged in member group before showing the preview.

    As Mark points out, Better Workflow allows you to set up editorial flows to suit your needs.

    If you have any more questions, just let me know.

    Cheers,
