Blank/white screen whenever I try any member action (login, log out, register, etc.)

I’ve run into a pretty elusive issue in EE2.4.0 regarding the submission of any member-related form. Here’s an overview of the site: We’re running a marketing website, which has served its purpose thus far without any problems at all. I’m currently working on a new ‘store’ section of the site, which also requires that I build out a members section to access downloadable content.

I’m running the store with CartThrob (see version in list below) and managing the site’s members via User. The problem that I’m running into is that trying to log in, log out, register, or reset my password through the front-end results in a blank white screen. Trying to reload the page changes nothing, but browsing to the site’s homepage shows that the requested action did indeed happen. For instance, if I were trying to log in, visiting the homepage after seeing the white screen would show me a ‘sign out’ link instead of a ‘sign in’ one.

I initially thought that the issue was with User, but I was less eager to blame it when I realized that a simple logout link triggered the same effect. Likewise, the standard EE login form behaved the same way. I then suspected that Twomile’s Login Redirect add-on was the culprit, but the problem persisted after I disabled that extension. Then I tried disabling all extensions. Still, no dice.

I began to suspect that the site’s URI protocol might be to blame. It was set to “AUTO,” so I tried setting it to “PATH_INFO” and tweaking my .htaccess file, but alas…the problem persisted still.

I’m now at a loss of what this issue could be caused by. I’m turning to you for any possible help that you could give me. Here’s a list of my currently installed modules:

    Assets 1.1.3
    CartThrob 2.0512
    Channel 2.0.1
    Comment 2.2
    Email 2.0
    Emoticon 2.0
    File 1.0.0
    Freeform 3.1.1
    Greeny 1.0.3
    jQuery 1.0
    Low Reorder 1.2.1
    Member 2.1
    Playa 4.1.0.2
    Protected Links 1.6.7
    Query 2.0
    RSS 2.0
    Search 2.1
    SEO Lite 1.3.1
    Statistics 2.0
    Structure 3.1.3
    User 3.3.7

I’ll gladly divulge any other information (related to the project, of course) that you request. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hey, Nate.

Thanks for checking in. I did indeed try all of those steps. Settings debug to “1” results in the same blank white page. Trying to enable debugging via the CP results in the same. My PHP Info page shows that ‘display_errors’ is globally turned off, but locally turned on. Lastly, my php server logs don’t report a single error related to this issue. Introducing bad PHP code on purpose (to break the site) does create entries in my php log, so I’m sure that error logging is working.

Do you have any other ideas? I’m at a loss, but I’ll be trying more things tomorrow morning. Thanks again for your help!

I found the cause of this problem. It was BoldMinded’s Custom System Messages add-on, which I wasn’t using at all. After disabling the Custom System Messages extension, everything worked as expected.

Love having to start turning off add-ons one by one. I assume that’s what you ended up doing no?

Nate: Yup. Disabling all extensions broke the site entirely (I’m assuming because of User), but I was able to disable extensions and then log out successfully. After I realized such, I knew it was only a matter of discovering which add-on was being the stinker.
