I had a need that could be easily solved by adding a custom field to a category I’m using on my site. Unfortunately I need to pull the custom field out via a query. This did n’t strike me as being particularly complicated until I went to locate the name of the table that contains my new data.

It doesn’t appear to be stored in:

    exp_categories
    exp_category_field_data
    exp_category_groups

    -or-

    exp_category_posts

I can see the label in exp_category_fields but I can’t find the actual value I saved to my category.

Anyone know where I should be looking?

    Hi Spazsquatch,

i am not sure, i ‘m fully understanding what you want. exp_category_posts stores the records with entry id and category id. can you please elaborate it.

Well, I can get very specific.

I have a category called “Conference & Market” that I need to display in a horizontally confined space (mobile). To resolve this I added a custom field to Category that allows me to enter a “Short Name”. In this case I choose the short name “Industry”.

Were is the actual string “Industry” stored. That’s what I was looking for in the tables above.

...just found it by accident in the table ‘exp_category_field_data’ which is actually where I thought it should have been but somehow overlooked. I might have just needed a break from what I was doing.
