When I ran the Update Wizard, I received this message: The update script failed without returning an error. Please contact tech-support. The last thing logged on the Update wizard was “2.0.0: Standardizing Timestamps (Query 62 of 63).” I believe it was stuck at 62 for about 5 minutes before receiving the error. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I ran the Update Wizard again and this time the update completed successfully.

I thought I was good to go, but now I’m seeing this error when I go to ../admin.php: “Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; Invalid Preference Data”

    Hello drivesimplicity,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

What value does ‘app_version’ have in your config.php file, and is there a ‘ud_next_step’ value? It sounds like the second update completed but there the first update left things in a bad state.

When you ran the update wizard again, what steps did you take to roll back to the previous version? We have these steps for Troubleshooting Upgrade Errors and how to roll back and properly run the update again.

Before updating, had you done anything to the Database? Any custom changes?

I will be on the lookout for your response.

    Cheers,

I ended up restoring everything back to version 1.6.8, then updating to version 1.7.2 and trying to update to 2.4.0 again.

I ran into the “Update script failed without returning an error” message again. That’s when I found those trouble shooting steps you referred to in your link. I followed the steps to restart the upgrade again this time running the upgrade with JavaScript disabled. After running for about 10 minutes I received a message from Chrome that my internet connection was reset. I reset and tried again in Firefox with JavaScript disabled just in case with the same results.

    The app_version = 1.7.2 ud_next_step = standardize_datetime

I moved the hosting from Hostek to Dreamhost and was able to complete the upgrade successfully!
