I have recently taken over responsibility for our website and have come across an issue that i’m sure there is a way to work around.

Arizona doesn’t observe daylight savings time, however when everyone else is it assumes we do too.  I read something about setting the time zone in the back end of the site to the location of the server where our website resides.

I am trying to find a solution to the daylight savings time issue because every year that they have had this site for a few months out of the year we have to submit events to our calendar at the wrong time so it displays properly on the front end of the website.

    for example on this page…

    http://www.phoenixfirst.org/discover/events/weekend-experience114

i have to submit that event to start at 8am instead of 9am…

by setting the time zone in the localization settings to the location of our server, will it solve this? I have even told it that we do not observe daylight savings.

Any help I can get with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Phoenix First,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

I would like to first understand where things are.

For the Preferences in Admin->Localization Settings What do you currently have set?

    Something like this?

Server Time Zone = (UTC -7) hours Mountain Standard Time
Server Offset (in minutes) = BLANK
Default Time Formatting = United States
    Daylight Saving Time = No

    Were you using server offset?

What date does your server give you?

For example on mine, I set it to match your time zone, I get this.

    [root@agamemnon]# date
    Thu Feb 9 12:59:48 MST 2012

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thank you,

Sorry it took so long to respond…

Our Localization Settings are what you show above.  We are not using server offset.

I recently took on our website from a previous employee and i’m still kinda working my way around his code.  I do know that he tried hard coding a fix into the website to make it automatically make the adjustment for dates between 2 specific dates, but wasn’t able to make that work.

Appearantly the localization settings don’t have any effect on the times that are displayed (even with DST off)

I’m not sure how to check what date and time my server gives me (where do i check that?)

    Hello Phoenix First,

The easiest place to check is the command line on your server.

On the command line just type date and see what you get.

    Cheers,

Our site is hosted at engine hosting.  I don’t have access to do that.

    Hi Phoenix First,

You could try putting this into a template, making sure to enable php on the template.

    Server Time is <?=date("h:i:s d F Y")?>.

I tested this on my server and it gave me the correct time.

    Cheers,

    Hello Phoenix First,

So does this help you to tweak the settings?

Is it possible for EH to work with you on getting the DST stuff to work?

    Let me know!

    Cheers,

    Pheonix First,

If you put 60 into the server offset field it didn’t change the time by one hour? What version of ExpressionEngine is your site running on? If you are running a version older than 2.4.0 I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest version if possible.
