I am wondering if there is a plugin or a way to search by location and distance from entries in EE.

There will be address fields when creating entries, so it could query against it.

I have had excellent experiences with Natural Logic’s Geofinder: http://natural-logic.com/software/geofinder

We are using it on Director-ee: http://director-ee.com/location

Just a note, you will have to have a Latitude/Longitude for each entry.  This can be done quite easily (for new entries) with Natural Logic’s Geotagger: http://natural-logic.com/software/geotagger/

Geotagger can provide a graphical interface both in the front or back end, or even work as some hidden javascript on your stand alone entry forms.  On Director-ee, we use this when people fill out their profile, and on occasion the admins do a search for profiles with a blank lat/long value, and fill those in manually (it doesn’t happen often).

Another add-on that provides geolocation is GoogleMaps for ExpressionEngine from ObjectiveHTML.  It also taps right into the Google API for its searches, so it works well and the support is great.

I have a question regarding this - is there a way to use either of these add-ons (or some other add-on) to build a search form that searches by location AND filters results by custom field?

I am working on a member directory of music teachers (using Zoo Visitor, so these work as standard channel entries) and I am currently using the GoogleMaps for EE add-on, which seems to work great if ONLY searching by location or category (I’m not using categories in this example).

In addition to searching within a radius of a given zip code, I also need the user to be able to filter results by “Instruments Taught,” “Styles Taught,” and/or “Ages Taught” (all are currently P&T Checklist fieldtypes). I can’t seem to figure out how to marry these two types of searches so any suggestions are much appreciated!
