I think I figured it out - if the locations of the files you were using for your cat. image weren’t in a file upload location, then you’ll probably lose them.

Pretty much. Basically, we’re sending the value of the category_image field in the DB to the file field for parsing, and if it can’t figure out how that data relates to a file in the database, it returns FALSE. That turned out to be a problem, of course, so I’ve posted a solution on the bug report for anyone else having this issue:

For those who haven’t replaced their category images yet, let us know how this solution works out for you. And, sorry for the trouble.
