I have a client who needs to upload video files to his site regularly, they’re quite large files (50mb+) so he does them via FTP and then places the file on the page with file manager.

Before, we were having trouble with the previous version of EE (2.1 I think) taking a long time to load all the file thumbnails in file manager so I upgraded the version of EE.

Since upgrading to the latest version the files don’t show up in the file manager at all once they’re uploaded and he has to syncronise the File Destination each time, which is quite frustrating.

Is there any way to get around this?

    Hi rmwatson,

Thank you for posting your question on the forums.

In order for the File Manager to be “aware” of the files that are uploaded via FTP it is required that you run “Synchronize Files”. I am unaware of any way around this.

I am sorry for the extra step, if you wish you can make a feature request.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please let me know.

    Thank you,

Thanks for the reply, is there a reason as to why it used to work in my previous version (2.1) but not in the latest version?

    Thanks

Thinking about it the last version took ages to load the files each time you opened the File Manager so I guess it synced it automatically each time whereas now you have to do it manually.

    Hi rmwatson,

If I hear what you are saying correctly, before the update the files would synchronize automatically with FTP uploaded files?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thank you,

I have the exact same issue with my own client, who also uploads large video files via FTP and then can’t locate them in the File Manager afterwards. I know there are extensions that allow users to upload large files from posts, but an auto-sync option would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Luc,

If you would like, you can file a Feature Request for an autosync option. I think that would be a great idea.

To date we have not had anything like that for file synchronization. It has always been a manual process.

Thank you again for using the forums.

    Cheers!
