I’m wondering if anyone has setup an EE site on one of these cloud hosting environments?

I current just setup a base EE install and things look to be working ok, but I can foresee some issues arising with the uploading of images and other assets.

It looks like for uploading images, we could use some of the plugins available that sync channel entry images to amazons3, but I’m not sure about other images like avatars, member photos and signature attachments.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any ideas?

    thanks!

PHP Fog runs Expression Engine and, in fact, our documentation site (docs.phpfog.com) is EE based.

    Hope this helps,

    Hello Leslie,

Can you provide more information on setting up an EE instance on PHP Fog ? Was about to try Pagoda, but since our customer is going live this weekend, we could use some help in setting up and testing a copy of the production website asap.

To bryantAXS, have you tried either yet ?

I’m just starting development of a site on PHPFog and so far so good.  Its a pretty straight forward process: Create app, commit code to Git, Code automatically deployed.

There are two drawbacks to PHPFog: 1.  You can’t remotely connect to the DB (using something like Sequel Pro) 2. You can’t access “shared” files, or files your users would be uploading.

I believe PagodaBox does let you connect remotely to your DB, so if thats a priority for you, you can check with Pagoda Box. As for accessing the “shared” files… I use BackupPro to backup my upload directories on a nightly basis, so whenever I need to sync, I just pull them down from my AmazonS3 account that they are being backed up to.

Again, I don’t have anything in production yet, but so far so good.

bryantAXS is right, phpfog doesn’t allow remote DB connections, however there is a full featured phpMyAdmin for DB administration.

The uploaded content is an interesting one because it is not committed to your code base.  You can either use a S3 plugin for all uploaded content (similar to wordpress tantan plugin) or use backups like bryantAXS.

You can email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and Rich, Daniel, or Joe from the support team can help you out getting it setup. It’s a lot like setting up any other app on PHP Fog.

We do recommend using S3 for static contents/uploads. It works particularly well if you also use it with CloudFront as you can get the benefits of the CDN for better app performance. In WP there are plugins that do this for you, I’m not familiar enough with EE to know how this might be integrated into the app.
