    Hello,

I have created an admin group based on the existing Superadmin group.  I didn’t change a thing and verified that all permissions in the new “admin” group are set to yes.  The problem is that then a person in that group cannot publish a new weblog entry or set the status of an entry to “open”.  Is there another place I need to set permissions that I’m missing?

    Hi visualpeace,

I’m sorry that the new Member group is behaving unexpectedly. I’ll do everything I can to get this sorted out with you.

In the Group’s preferences, have you made sure that the Weblog is set in
CP Home-> Admin-> Members and Groups-> Member Groups-> Edit Member Group-> Group Name: Weblog Assignment ?

...or set the status of an entry to “open”.

Does this mean that members in this group are able to edit existing entries?

Are you using any third-party add-ons that might have an impact on this?

    Thanks!

    Sorry to respond so slowly.

In the Group’s preferences, have you made sure that the Weblog is set in
CP Home-> Admin-> Members and Groups-> Member Groups-> Edit Member Group-> Group Name: Weblog Assignment ?

    YES

Does this mean that members in this group are able to edit existing entries?

They can edit blog postings but they become closed even if they started out as open.  They can edit other weblogs though.  Would that help narrow down the problem?

Are you using any third-party add-ons that might have an impact on this?

Don’t know but I attached a screen shot of installed modules, extensions, and plugins.  Do you see any that might throw a wrench in the matter?

I had this same problem early on in learning Expression Engine. Try going under

CP Home ›  Admin ›  Weblog Administration ›  Weblog Management ›  Edit Group Preferences

In the group preferences for your weblog, make sure that you have a status group set. If the status group is set to ‘none’, then your other member groups will not have any status options when creating or editing posts in that particular weblog, so it defaults to the status of ‘closed’. Hope this helps!

    John,

Glad to see that Troy was able to get you all sorted out. I’m going to close out this thread, but feel free to post again when you have more questions.
