    Greetings,

    I’m trying to get EE to automatically create an image caption block (using the alt text) for any images that are included in the text of an article.  Ideally it would look something like this:

    <div>
         FilePath
         "This is the caption text"
    </div>

    Is this possible using the alt image text property in EE2’s stock image capabilities?  I’ve searched long and hard to figure this out without any luck :-(

    Thanks,
    EJ Lear

    Short answer: no.
    There’s an add-on called Assets http://pixelandtonic.com/assets which allows you to add global file metadata, which is then available in your templates. It’s not free, but if you’re using a lot of files, it’s worth every penny.

    If you make your alt text for the image a custom field in your entry screen, you can do this natively as well.  But that would be entry specific and not travel with the image itself globally as it would with Assets.
