I am working from templates as files. I was working on the template ‘past_winners’, and prior to changing it I created a copy ‘past_winners.old’ using my FTP client, in the same directory. I did not think this would influence the database.

Now I cannot access the Template Manager or Template Sync through the CP, I am getting:
    “An Error Was Encountered
The name you submitted may only contain alpha-numeric characters, underscores, and dashes   past_winners.old”

What is more, I cannot delete the offending file using FTP (despite permissions 777) - just getting FTP 550 operation failed errors.

Any idea how to solve this? Perhaps deleting something in the database would work?

    Hi Wojtek D,

I had a similar issue a while ago. What I did was rename the template via ftp to, in your case, past_winners_old.html

could you try that and get back to me?

I cannot rename or delete the file, I keep getting FTP 550 operation failed errors.

The file itself has 644 permissions, and so I cannot change them. This is strange as all the other template files in the directory are 777, as so was past_winners.old.html when it was created.

    Wojtek D,

Could you contact your host about those specific files and ask them to change the permissions for you? Also ask them to check that the ownership of the files is correctly set. Once you’ve done that let me know if that resolves the issue.

    Sean
