    Hi,

The other day I read a great article about multi-language methods at EE-insider.

I am familliar with EE, but I’m still finding the right way to do multi-language websites for my clients.
After reading the article I was sure I could do the job in a short time, but the first step is blocking me to do that.

If you skip the first part in the article and start reading from here: Make ExpressionEngine aware of the current language... it’s easy to follow.

Now the problem is that I do everthing the right way, but there’s only one problem that I can’t find.
my English translation is showing like it supposed to with the “{{language}-page-heading}” on my root -> localhost/EE/index.php/
but when I try to show the subdirectory language map. -> “localhost/EE/fr/index.php/” I get forwarded to de admin login panel.

    something like this -> localhost/EE/nl/index.php?S=f50620d0256e7a45a352595d464878fafff5ba24&D=cp&C=homepage

How come? I did not forgot the extra ‘dot’ to add before system path subdirectory. -> ( ‘../system’ )

I know it must be a small mistake somewhere….?

    Kind regards,
    Max

Are you using sub-directories for the individual sites or using the domain to determine the language?

I use the sub directories for individual sites -> localhost/EE/fr/ (French)  and localhost/EE/nl/ (Dutch)...
And ‘EN’ is the standard language located in the root. -> localhost/EE/index.php/

Would you like to see it online? maybe it’s more easy to figure out where the problem is situated ?

    Kind regards,

    Hi Max,

this thread is more appropriate for the Community Help forums so moving there.

Have you added a htaccess to each language folder?
    What’s in them?
What index.php did you copy into the language folders, the one from the root or from the system folder?
What version of EE are you using?

    Hi John,

I just put all the files online, and it works perfectly! online it’s running on v2.1.3.
locally i’m testing on v2.3.1 but it isn’t working yet. Maybe there is a problem with my ‘.htaccess’ file but I still have to figure it out.

But I have no ‘.htaccess in my folders locally but i have no idea what to put in these files.

The good thing is it’s working properly online!

result: (only 2 simple test fields)
