This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I’ve read though countless posts on this and still can’t seem to get this working for me. I do get a ‘template has been updated’ message but also get ‘Unable to save your template as a text file’.

I’ve set the necessary file permissions to 777, enabled saving templates to files etc but still can’t get it working. I’m hosted with GoDaddy and I think I have my server path correct ( /home/content/33/7170633/html/rightonninth.com/ninthmin/expressionengine/templates/ ) but I’m not so good at that stuff so maybe I messed that part up?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi JHaldane and welcome to the forums 😊,

If you look inside your templates folder is there a another folder called default_site?
Can you make sure this folder has 777 permissions also

What version and build of EE are you using?

Hey John thanks for the reply!

Yes my default_site also has 777 for permissions and this is my first time using EE so I would assume I have the latest build since I only downloaded it a few days ago.

    thanks

    JHaldane,

Could you confirm with GoDaddy that you’ve got the path setting correct and that the permissions are set to 777 (recursively) for the templates folder?

The folders are definitely set to 777 recursively but maybe I’m getting the path wrong. I talked to godaddy but they weren’t much help at all. I found my absolute hosting path and copied that in followed by the normal path to the templates directory but it’s still not working for me. Do you think I’m entering my path wrong? Do you have an idea of what it should look like if hosted though godaddy?

    thanks for your help

    Hi JHaldane,

I’m sorry to see you’re still having issues here. In every case where I’ve seen this error message, the root cause has been that the path to the templates directory was not set correctly. Could you try working with GoDaddy again to determine the absolute basepath to your template file directory? Consult this page in our User Guide for more information.

Any resolution? I’m having the same trouble. Been saving templates as text files without issue for months; all the sudden this morning it stops working. Any ideas?

    Hey Sprocketeer,

    Bummer!

Can you tell me what you have done so far to trouble shoot?

Have you checked paths and permissions? If there were some server changes, then that would make a lot of sense.

    Cheers,

Man, after 3 days of hair-pulling, I accidentally stumbled on the answer: Media Temple *changed* my server path. I’ve been using the same one for months:

    /nfs/c06/h04/mnt/xxxxxx ...

And they go and change it to:

    /nfs/c06/h07/mnt/xxxxxx ...

    Without notifying me. EPIC FAIL!

    Hey Sprocketeer,

Yeah, your not the only one, and I believe we closed out your other case on this, so glad you are back up and running.

Going to close this off, it’s approaching a year old. 😊

    Cheers,
