    Hi,

Recently I’ve had a handful of site members telling me they’re unable to reset their password. The get the initial message but when clicking the URL they get this:

The form you submitted contained the following errors:
    • The code number you submitted was not found in the database.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hi E P Alton,

Are they making sure the respond within the time limit? The reset is only valid for 24 hours.

Definitely less than 24 hours. They’ve forwarded the emails to me so I can confirm that.

    Hi E P Alton,

Do you have access to PHPMyAdmin on your EE install? If you can, would you please clear out the exp_reset_password table and see if the issue persists? Before you do that, you can look through that table and look for a code from the samples your users have sent to confirm that it is indeed missing.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the tip about checking the exp_reset_password table. I’m noticing that sometimes reset requests aren’t being added but when I clear the table of all lingering entries, the new ones DO get written and the reset works as it should.

Any ideas what else might be happening here? It’s almost like the write permissions for the table (if there are such a thing) are changing randomly. I’m running 2.3.1 for what it’s worth.

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hi Ed,

That is odd. When you clear out the table, how many rows are typically in there? Have you continued to notice this erratic behavior? Have you had a look into your server’s log files to see if there are any clues regarding dropped connections or other things that might indicate if the request is timing out when the write is attempted?

    Thanks!
