    Hi team!

    Our clients been saying they are experiencing short CP session times - in some cases whereby the autosave kicks in and then takes them all the way back to the login screen.

    I’ve tried to increase their session time using the global variable cp_session_ttl - this is currently set to 6000.

    They’re running EE 2.1.3. They are on a Windows 7 setup and access the account via multiple browsers but mainly Chrome. They are also on a fixed IP address.

    They do have times whereby 2 people will be logged into the same account at once… I don’t know if that could be causing an issue or not..! It is necessary though as they need to preview the site in multiple browsers when they make changes and we have set things up so that they can only see their “dev” environment if they are logged into the Control Panel.

    I know it’s reduced support over this time, so no rush - please let me know if you need to know anything more.

    Hi Blis,

    Just to clarify, are your clients running 2.1.3 or 2.3.1?

    Are you allowing multiple users to be logged into the same account at the same time?

    Does this happen with other users or just ones running Windows 7?

    Do you have any extensions installed?

    Sorry, yes, they are running 2.3.1

    Multiple users are enabled in the CP security settings

    It happens with both Windows 7 and Vista. We’re also on Macs (Lion) and it happens occasionally for us too… but not nearly as often as the client describes.

    Plenty of extensions installed… most which I’ve used on other sites as well. Do you need a list?

    Yes, a list of add-ons installed would be very helpful, thanks!

    Just a note: we’re investigating several other causes with very similar login/session issues at the moment, so you’re not alone. We’re trying to figure it out!

    Hi!

    I have a similar problem, but it’s really hard to give more details because it is relatively aleatory and I can’t figuring out when it happens.

    The user logged in with a simple exp:member:login_form. Sometimes, there are logged out after 2 minutes, sometimes, they stay logged in for hours. I have the same problem on different sites/servers configuration (but all are EE 2.3.1).

    I have the following in my config files:

    $config['cp_session_ttl'] = 60*60;
    $config['user_session_ttl'] = 60*60;

    Cheers!

    Hi PV,

    I’m sorry to hear about your issues with sessions and logins. Are the problems occurring in a particular browser or across all browsers? Are you using any add-ons that interact with members or login/logout?

    Hi Sean,

    This accross all browsers, cache and cookie cleared.

    Here is the exact config concerning sessions:

    $config['cookie_prefix'] = '';
    $config['cookie_path'] = '';
    $config['cookie_domain'] = '';
    $config['user_session_type'] = 'c';
    $config['admin_session_type'] = 'c';
    $config['cp_session_ttl'] = 60*60;
    $config['user_session_ttl'] = 60*60;

    We are using Zoo Visitor but I’m not sure I it has something to do with the time out. This sporadic timeout occurred when we log to the CP or in front with the simple login form. Noticed that when logging in the CP, if we check the ‘Auto log-in on future visits?’ box, this timeout seems to shut up.

    Cheers!

    We are having the same issue and it recently got much worse. I’ve set the cp_session_ttl to 7776000 (3 months) a couple weeks ago and today it is logging me out every 5 minutes, even while I’m actively editing templates.

    Hi all,

    At least one major potential cause for being logged out of the system was resolved in EE 2.4, just released this week. What I need everyone here to do is upgrade to that version EE and then report back if you still experience the problems. We know there may be other reasons for being logged out by the system, but in order to best troubleshoot the remaining issues, we do need to take the known-and-fixed causes out of play.

    Thanks!

    Hi, I’ve started a new thread on a very similar problem before becoming aware of this one.  The thread is http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/211517/

    I have the dreaded logout problem too and I have upgraded to 2.4 from 2.3.1 It’s still there.

    Did anyone still watching this thread find a resolution - it’s getting a bit urgent for me 😊

    My client hasn’t reported a concern after switching session tracking to just “cookies” in the CP. They’re on 2.3.1. If someone had tried this and it hasn’t worked for them, i’d love to know.

    For everyone still experiencing an issue here, does Blis’s note provide any relief? If not, could I get you to post a comment to this bug report and provide all the information requested in the report body?

    tigerchick, I’ll follow up with you on the other thread you posted.
